Hi TC,

I have a mentor named Khaliq Glover that I follow. Khaliq is extremely passionate and committed to helping artists on their way up. He is a Grammy winning engineer that has worked with many, many mainstream artists. He holds live webinars where he gives great thoughts and tips on songwriting and mixing. I have attended many of his webinars where he has delved into the semantics of hit songwriting. His insight has done much to inspire and grow my artistry. For instance, his last webinar talked about the importance of "connecting" to your audience in your song. Now, when I write, I seek to write from the heart and connect with those who listen, and when I record, my focus is more on conveying feeling and emotion in the song, than trying to do 100 retakes to make it picture perfect.

Last week Khaliq had an interview with the founder of Itchy Music, Ed was his name. Ed talked to us about defining our audience, engaging them, giving them quality content and interacting with them. Ed from Itchy Music is the social media guru who was responsible for taking on this heavy metal group and promoting them so effectively through social media that they had 3 record companies fighting to sign them! Ed is going to be back on a future show.

If you keep sitting under the apple tree, from time to time, ripe apples of gold will fall, but you have to catch them, they won't fall in your lap. So the key is to find a tree of knowledge to sit under. Khaliq is a wonderful mentor to a lot of upcoming artists. Come over and sit under his tree for awhile and see what you might learn. Khaliq is not lofty at all and is open to sharing what he has learned in the industry. So surround yourself with mentors who want to see you grow and perfect your skills as an artist.

One last thing about Khaliq. Four years ago, when I started my radio show Platinum Mornings, I asked Khaliq to be my first guest on the show. He could not commit because he had enginerring sessions booked with major artists from the record company he worked with. When my show started, I got a call in guest on the line and it was him! He took a break in the session to pop in on my show! That's the kind of person he is! Look him up and join his mailing list at http://mixingacademy.com/notification/

May all that you set your hand to do be blessed of Adonai!

Flo
