Where your word's become art, and your thought's become music

JACK KNIGHT SAYS.....ARE YOU HURT BY REJECTION??

FOR MY NEW FAMILY!!!!

When I first started out in the business, a seasoned pro told me, If youre not getting rejected everyday, then youre not doing your job. I didnt understand this statement until much later when I discovered all the places rejection can occur. Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it is subtle, but it never feels good. It might make it easier to deal with if you realize that you are not alone when it comes to being rejected. Some of the more famous examples of rejection include:

-Beethoven,
whose music teacher said he was hopeless at composing;

-Albert Einstein, whose parents were worried that he was subnormal

-The Wright Brothers, who had only five people show up to see them fly the very first airplane

-Fred Astaire, who was described at his first audition as balding, skinny, and can dance a little. Astaire later became one of the most famous dancers of the stage and screen

-Marconi who gave us the gift of television was thought to be crazy and put into a mental asylum for thinking he could could make images travel through the air to a small tube we now call a T.V

The list goes on and on, but the point is that all great treasures bury themselves and the process of digging for them will be met with challenges. and that goes the same for diamonds , Oil, Good Music, A Record Deal???? Distribution..Basically anything worth something is gonna require persistence and fighting against haters and periods of rejection

wow I need to learn how to deal with rejection. I have so many song i dont release cause Im just scared of the rejection or the negative vibe i may get from all my hard work, I need to look beyond that and keep pushing on and accpet an opion it will make me better in the long run.
Here's the meaning to my answer. We gotta eat for nourishment, but we get to choose. Some things are better for you than others, so choose wisely.

No one truly likes rejection, but here's what I've discovered: rejection tastes bitter like dark chocolate, cold like ice cream and tangy like grapefruit!
Good question. Took me awhile, but I've learned to handle rejections. I've gotten turned down from Professional A&R Reps. It taught me awhole lot, one that is that everybody is not going to like your songs. Different strokes for different folks. But just because someone else doesn't like your songs, doesn't mean everybody else wont like them. Some will love my songs and some wont love my songs. That is one of the lesson's I had to learn on being a songwriter.

Just because I've been told that I'm a very creative songwriter, and that I'm up there with the pros, didn't make me become puffed up with pride, because no matter how long I've been writing doesn't mean that every song I write will be hit potential.

I like what you said Jack Knight "anything worth something is gonna require persistence and fighting against haters and periods of rejection." That is a true statement. You have to work hard and fight for what you want, and you will have some who will, instead of lifting you up will try to tear you down, those are the haters.
In my opinion, there is nothing better for a driven person than rejection - as a failure to achieve the desired end result based on an action you took- be it getting an affirmation a song you wrote is hot, getting let go by your employeer, and/or being rejected from trying to get closer to someone (just as a few).

Rejection hurts, but from a negative situation- if you're smart about it, you learn.

How many hit songs have been written about rejection?
How many artists were rejected before they achieved their dream? (as Jack points out above)
How many people kept treckin' through all that rejection?

I am who I am partly because of the mistakes I've made and the rejection I've seen, and with that experience comes opportunity to write.

I wish sometimes I had more time to "live life" and experience relationships and pain...partly for my drive to understand this world, but another to gain more depth to my writing. We all understand you can't write about something that isn't genuine . . . so how can you continue to write if you've soaked up every angle from a situation?
To be honest I don't mind being rejected, cause I know I'm not going to please everyone, So I just take it on the chin and try and improve in everyway possible.

The only thing i don't like is being left hanging and waiting around for either a yes or a no,
It's happening now with this record label that say they want to sign me but they've not been back in touch since they said so, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and I'm not going to build my hopes up incase it doesnt follow through.

I love the way you always make me see the positive side jack even when you talk about a negative situation.

i feel you on this, ive been singing for 15 years but never persued it seriously until now due to fear of rejection and a series of high school talent show losses. it wasnt until i started promoting other local underground groups about 2 years ago that i realized how common rejection is..... ive realized that aslong as i am true to myself and in constant persuit of my musical goals and talent that eventually i would find my grand opportunity.... being an artist is so much more then just money and competitions. its about baring your soul through expression and being able to share that on a greater scale of people through the masses!
WoW!! Finally someone who understands!! Great Post!! Glad to know I'm not alone!
Real talk, Great Post bro..
No, just motivated to keep it movin. Every no gets you closer to a yes.
Hurt? Absolutely not. Confused by it? Sure, a little.

I am, however, ultimately, intrigued by the emotion itself and how each person has their own individual interpretation of rejection....

I mean, it is, sadly, based on another person's decision that affects our lives in such a melancholy way...,

I'm not quite sure why...but, rejection kinda sucks when you feel it.

LOL

Just a thought.

Forum when do you know when to care about rejection? It is my thought that you always care about rejection. You must always consider the source of the critique and consider if they fit into your demographic. Understanding the psychology of life will help you get the desired outcome. Manipulating your direction does not mean to lose yourself in other people. Be true to yourself and realize what you want. Take the rejection decide if your plan should be changed or remain the same. Rejection is a point of view. Don't you have one of your own!
Everybody has an agenda and maybe you dont fit thier scheme of things at the time or maybe it's just not what they are looking for. Good example: The "Blame it on the alchohol" track! Chris Henderson the producer had been shopping that track for years with no success! But he beleieved in himself and kept at it and placed the track with "Jamie Fox" almost 2 years later!! Rejection is not necessarily a bad thing!
