Jack Knight Songwriting Academy

Where your word's become art, and your thought's become music

JACK KNIGHT SAYS.....ARE YOU HURT BY REJECTION??

FOR MY NEW FAMILY!!!!

When I first started out in the business, a seasoned pro told me, If youre not getting rejected everyday, then youre not doing your job. I didnt understand this statement until much later when I discovered all the places rejection can occur. Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it is subtle, but it never feels good. It might make it easier to deal with if you realize that you are not alone when it comes to being rejected. Some of the more famous examples of rejection include:

-Beethoven,
whose music teacher said he was hopeless at composing;

-Albert Einstein, whose parents were worried that he was subnormal

-The Wright Brothers, who had only five people show up to see them fly the very first airplane

-Fred Astaire, who was described at his first audition as balding, skinny, and can dance a little. Astaire later became one of the most famous dancers of the stage and screen

-Marconi who gave us the gift of television was thought to be crazy and put into a mental asylum for thinking he could could make images travel through the air to a small tube we now call a T.V

The list goes on and on, but the point is that all great treasures bury themselves and the process of digging for them will be met with challenges. and that goes the same for diamonds , Oil, Good Music, A Record Deal???? Distribution..Basically anything worth something is gonna require persistence and fighting against haters and periods of rejection

I can handle my music being rejected but, does this apply to when women reject you? That's where I need help. LMBAO. This is very good and encouraging information. It gets rough out here at times especially when you're trying to get a foot in and you can't even seem to get it stepped on at least. LOL.
Can you read my mind Jack ? I was reading about it this morning and was thinking alot about it...scary, Jack can read minds...lol.
Here some statements about rejection I have found this morning:
Earl G. Graves, the founder and publisher of Black Enterprise magazine: "We keep going back, stronger, not weaker, because we will not allow rejection to beat us down. It will only stengthen our resolve. To be successful there is no other way."
Tawni O'Dell, Author of Back Roads, an Oprah Book Club pick: "Never give up on your dream...Perseverance is all important. If you don't have the desire and the belief in yourself to keep trying after you've been told you should quit, you will never make it"
Barbara Kingsolver, Best-selling author of the Poisonwood Bible: "The manuscript of yours that has just com back from another editor is a precious package. Don't consider it rejected. Consider that you have addressed it 'to the editor who can appreciate your work' and it ahs simply come back stamped 'not at this address' Just keep looking for the right address. "
Sylvester Stallone, Actor, writer and director: "I take rejection as someone blowing a bugle in my ear to wake me up and get going, rather than retreat."
I loved to read this - Thankyou Jack :) makes me think...

He who has nothin' to loose
- has nothin' to live for...

- getting rejectet might make us feel we loose for a while
- the reason why we feel we loose - is that we have something to live for - cos we are somebody
and even more... together

Rejection will never be something we are looking forward to but it will always exist and we have to learn to deal with it. Whatever you do, if you do music, write books or if you painting, if people like it is always in the eye of the viewer, what one person like the other one don’t. There will always be people which reject and others which accept. We should reject the rejection and should stay focus on the acceptation....
All I have to say is Amen. This is truly real talk. Thanks JK, I'm sure lots of us needed to hear this
I would never discount that but, it's a bit different. Men have to take the risk of being rejected at the onset every time. Women are not expected to approach men. It does create a lot of emotions from which to write. I know. I have song ideas all over the place :)
"anything worth something is gonna require persistence and fighting against haters and periods of rejection"

AMEN
This is so true. Rejection only makes you stronger. It does hurt. But I learned what don't kill me will make me stronger. N when I'm on the top the same people who has rejected me will be feeling the pain.
i take it as motivation if my beats are rejected.
Sometimes people may reject you because you are too different or eccentric. It is easy to go down the path everyone else is taking. Those that take the road less traveled are almost always rejected at first. Other times, people just cannot catch the vision and may not believe in you.
I don't know the whole exact stories, but my 2 favorite examples are how The Beatles got turned down for a record deal (lol) they were labeled as "not marketable" (sold over a Billion records worldwide a couple decades later.)
Kanye West was rejected plenty of times...even Jay-Z rejected him because he didn't believe in him as a rapper, just a producer. (Are u kiddin' me?) But Kanye had his own style, he wasn't a Pac or Jay-Z knock-off and he wasn't a thug so it was hard for people to accept.
Rejection hurts, but it needs to fuel you if you KNOW and BELIEVE in yourself. It hurts me sometimes, but I drink that glass, wipe my brow, and get back in the game!

I believe everything happens for a reason, so rejection can also be a blessing. We may have to learn to believe more in ourselves or it may be protection from the universe as mentioned before. What we have to be aware of is how true we are to ourselves and how much love and passion we have towards whatever we are doing. As long as we are doing things from our hearts, we certainley will be rewarded one way or the other.
