Jack Knight Songwriting Academy

Where your word's become art, and your thought's become music

What do you do?
What do you do when you don't have your tools ready?
Me?
I sing a lyric or melody into my answering service
or text it to myself....
How about you?

Hey Jose, I know the feeling!
I hear Brian McKnight never writes anything down...
I heard he keeps it all memorized, that he writes the whole song in his head and then
goes into the studio to lay it down!
Pretty incredible huh?
Looking forward to hearing your songs!-Dana
Than I do following "Whatever I do I do the opposite" if I have the feeling to listen to slow music I listen to fast music, if I have the feeling to stay at home and hiding myself I go out and showing myself. It sounds maybe wired but in times I am not inspired I don't allow my brain to yearn for something it knows because than I would stuck with everything I already know. But with giving it the opposite I show it everything it doesn't know or isn't looking for in this moment. What happened is I start to think, questioning because I want to learn, want to understand or to know and inspiration develops. I know it sounds wired but for me it works...
Hi Dani,

That's a very unique way! I never thought of it...
Looks like I might have to try it:) It makes total sense though...
How did you come up with that method?

I was thinking alot about it how the brain works and learnt that my brain can just yearn for something, can just want something what it already knows because what you don't know you can't miss and you don't want. And I knew when I would search for something where I actually do not know what I'm actually searching for I would be confused and not inspired. So I came to the conclusion that maybe that what I'm looking for just laying in the opposite of that what I actually want and I tried it...that's how I came to it...
I have a terrible memory. I always try to text myself though. I've hopped out of the shower dripping wet to get to the computer to jot something down or even texted myself in a meeting at work when I should have been paying attention. Creativity is too sacred to let anything get in the way! I've even written stuff on my arm while driving!
