Jack Knight Songwriting Academy

Where your word's become art, and your thought's become music

I heard one of Syllabus's tracks and thought it was something I could put one of my lyrics to. I couldn't do a vid of it because I had a lot of parts in my head so I just sung and tracked out my ideas. The MP3 of the song is attached below. It needs a better singer. Anybody, anybody? (:-) I also don't have an intro for it and I thought adding some hip hop to it either at the intro and/or at the bridge would help. Jack, what do you think about the song? how would you structure this song? Everybody's honest critiques, thoughts, pointers, etc is much appreciated. The words are:

Homemade

I am 10 pounds of love

and 5 pounds of sweetness

100% chocolate, honey dipped

Yes I'm your sweet tooth

Now You can't shop around

and find a better offer

cuz what I gave to you

only I can do

there is no other

Hook:

That lovin' you got, it was homemade

That's why you cannot find it when you're away

Homemade, So stop ya looking,

Homemade, stop denying,

Homemade, stop tripping,

Homemade, stop trying

Cuz you can try and find a copycat

But you will find she ain't all of that

(repeat)

Verse 2:

I am tender to the bone

and soaked in sexy

100 % a lady

and 20 % freaky

Stick a fork in this relationship

cuz baby I'm done

this kind of love I gave you

it only comes around once

(hook)

Rap Bridge
Singing Bridge

I am done

im not sure how PT works, but with logic you can email the session. You would still need to email the audio separate tho. if you gather all the files then right click on your mouse it will ask you if u want to compress ( yes 0 that will shrten the file size, but not to the point where u can send it thru Gmail. you use rapidshare, megaupload, etc to send the zip file. If im late with this info, apologies. ~TP

Ooooooh okay. No problema partna! There's about 20 or so individualized tracks so it will take a minute. Can't I just email you the whole PT session? Wouldn't that be easier? Yes I think I do know how to do a zip file. I will send it that way and/or send to through usendit. I'll tell VK to re-do his too.

Hey I'm diggin the rap too....If u can, I don't need the rap INDIVIDUALIZED, but I do need it to be bounced the same way. So give me the Acapella for that like u did, but don't cut it. Just bounce it AS-IS with all of the space in the beginning so that when I put the WAV's together, there won't be any TIMING issues. Feel me?

ok bye
No sirrie, not late at all, Bro (for y'all who don't know, Prod is my good friend so if y'all see me messing with him - that's what's up!)

Wouldn't the entire session have the separate files? Ya'll need to this non-producer (that is me) out... give me some understanding.
No, you're not too late, I use Logic too, so I needed to know that info as well. Thanx.

Hey Thedy, No in Pro Tools, the SESSION file is separate from the AUDIO FILES. The reason why I didn't need the session file is because that's more files to upload. Any bad take that you might have had would sent, for example if you did 20 takes on each actual vocal track, it'll have the whole audio history in the AUDIO FILES folder which would then make it 400 audio files that you would have to upload verses just the 20 separate bounces. BUT I need you to BYPASS ALL EFFECTS that you may have (No plugins)...
So it sucks cuz you can't do an OFFLINE bounce with PT. You have to wait the entire length for each bounce. So it'll take about an hour and a half to bounce all 20 files. I won't be able to mix it til tomorrow though, so take your time. I'm gonna borrow my partners PT setup in the morning. Hit me up at Trackaddictmusic@gmail.com if you have any questions...I'm bout to feed my 2-year-old so I'll see the message pop-up in Gmail.

Okay, gotcha! Thanks for the lesson :-). I'm asking questions but don't think I haven't started. I'm asking more for curiosity sake now..

I have Logic too (and don't say A WORD, PROOOOOOODDDDDDDD!). I don't know how to use it so I don't...

I agree! I sent u the mixed version. SO...on that note, THIS DISCUSSION IS CLOSED! :) (if u don't mind closing it Thedy...)
Thank you everyone who participated Jose, Myles, REZ, Edmund, etc...(Product...good look on the tips) Jack too, for his direction on the hook. Also BIG BIG ups to VICTOR KING AKA VK from Philly for spittin that dope rap! Good look on that Thedy!
Now let's work on the NEXT one!
LET'S GET IT 2009 LET'S GO!!

Thedy B said:
Hey Syllabus, I listened to the complete version again and I think the rap overlaying the background vocals in the bridge actually works because VK cleverly pauses in the right spots.
