Biography
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised in Hyattsville Maryland, Osei Jenkins learned of his love for music at an early age. His parents introduced him to all kinds of music from the sounds of John Coltrane and Miles Davis, to the powerful lyrics of Public Enemy and Tupac Shakur. "Music has been a part of my life since forever," says Osei. "I remember using an old cassette player to record myself trying to sing Stevie Wonder and Bob Marley! He exclaims. Around this time he began focusing on other aspects of music, and by the time he was 13 years old he was already a talented clarinet & saxophone player and was dabbling in piano and guitar. He wouldn't learn of his songwriting talent until years later.
His first taste of the Industry came In 2007 when a chance myspace message landed him working with Grammy award winning songwriter/producer, Troy Taylor. "I wrote three songs with Troy, says Osei. "He was the first person to really take a chance and help me learn the formula for a hit song. He didn't tell me I didn't have skill or anything, he heard my potential, even though my demos back then where pretty bad haha". Osei signed a production deal in early 2008 and began writing songs for independent acts as well as artists on the rise. Some of these artists include, Pop acts Katelyn Tarver and Ashlee Keating, R&B act Jacob Latimore and the multi-platinum selling dancehall legend Patra. After parting ways with the production company, he set off on his own again, in hopes of securing his first big placement. "After I left that situation I pretty much had to educate myself on music business laws. I read every article and book I could regarding it because protecting your music is the most important thing as a writer".
Now at the tender age of 20, Osei is slowly but surely becoming a sought out writer by a handful of respected music producers, having already put his pen to tracks from Cutfather, Warren "Oak" Felder, Soul DiggaZ, Kendrick "Wyldcard" Dean, and many more. Although he's still not ready to step from behind the scenes, you can hear him singing hooks and bridges on tracks for several rappers releasing music this year and the next, but don't think he's falling back from the pop/r&b world. He has several songs on hold with labels such as Universal Music, Atlantic Records, and Sony Music, and is currently in the studio working on music for various projects both major and independent.
