Do melodies help us store memories

Have you ever wondered what is it about the melodies in music which causes us to recall entire events or experiences? What I mean is what causes us to hear a Jackson Five song or Tupac recording and suddenly we are like teenagers or small children again even to the point of remembering what we were wearing, the people we were around, even the smell of the environment we were in. This must be what the Ancient Seers meant by music soothing the savage beast as they realized that music and the sounds they produce actually stimulate the central nervous system of the brain in such a way as to cause the very cells of the body to remember more than just the sounds but also the very emotions which were stored within those sounds. So if you want to feel young again or remember things you may forget in the future go back and listen to the sounds of your youth or make sure you listen to meaningful music now while you are young so you will have the ability to store meaningful experiences for the future when they may be what you will need to rejuvenate yourself.
