Where your word's become art, and your thought's become music

For All Humanity

It amazes me to this day how easy it is to end everything. Something as wonderful and powerful as life itself can come screeching to its demise at the squeeze of a trigger. It really puts into perspective the delicacy of everything around us. How astounding is it that something as complicated and developed as a friendship can be ended through the transmittal of a few bytes of data in the form of pixels on an LCD screen or with the striking of the little red button on a cell phone to decline the call of a person in need?

Equally impressive is the process in which these same friendships and relations are manufactured, often with only a slight variance in decision making. A few different keystrokes of data sent. Choosing the green button over the red. Many times we don't know the consequenses of our decisions. We don't know how our lives will change nor do we know if we will continue on at all.

As we evolve into the digital society we are destined to become, we can not forget the value of human interaction. Real human interaction. Too often do we hide behind the comfort of our electronic face masks as we furiously peck away at keys and buttons to express ourselves. We as a society would rather tuck behind an iPhone to avoid a confrontation than to embrace the genuine opportunity of conversation.

Alas, we are too afraid. Not of change or something different, but of the exact opposite. We are afraid of everything that is and has been. In a society that is focused so fervorishly on becoming anything other than what it has been, we are losing sight of the greatest qualities that brought us to the point we are now. As we move farther away from yesterday, we move farther away from each other.

Our future is a digital one. That is an undeniable fact. What me must ensure is that we do not lose sight of our past; a past rich of negotiation, confrontation, arguments and agreements. It is the lack of human interaction that is to blame for the negative changes in society. Next time you would normally write a bold email to tell your boss how you feel, set up an appointment, sit down and talk with him/her. You'd be surprised at how much better a place the world would be.
