Since I've been doing all the things that I've been doing and trying to balance all of them, I have let some things slip. Spending time with friends and going to church on a regular basis have been two of those things I let slip. Well my friends must have gotten busy too because one of my girlfriends noticed that we all haven't been spending as much time together as we used to. So back in December, she made us all save February 21st on our calendars and promise we'd keep it open.
Little did she know that I'd need my friends this week. The unconditional love and acceptance that only my family and real friends can give me was like medicine for my soul. They don't care whether one of my songs are placed unless i care about it. They don't care if you sound horrible when you sing. They don't have to see your name in lights. They don't care how big or small something is that you're doing. They are supportive regardless! They know your quirkiness, your idiosyncrasies, your gifts, your talents, your potential, your motives, and your heart. In short, they know you.
Yesterday, February 21st, my friends and I met up. We watched Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail and ate at the Melting Pot. There were 11 of us and yet were able to have our own little private place, a room, in the restaurant. We had cheese fondue, salad, an assortment of meats, veggies, a nice drink, and chocolate fondue. We laughed at each other. We caught up with what each was doing. We ate til we couldn't anymore! I was affirmed, loved, hugged, and prayed for. One of my friends gave us all a journal and a card with butterflies, filled with a heartfelt, handwritten message. That was another highlight of the night. So since we had a journal, I asked us all to write down the things in the journal that we want to accomplish and things we wanted our friends to be in agreement with for prayer.
After eating, we stood, held hands around the table, and I prayed for them and with them. We made our requests known to God. Even that was a reminder that I'm not alone on my journey. Our connection as friends was not lost by the temporary lost of contact that we had when our lives got busy. I'm thankful that my friends understand! Our connection was strong still and made stronger because we are friends. It was a wonderful evening and one that I will cherish hopefully the same as when I get a song placed, share my musical gifts on a larger scale, and win an award.
While my desire is to open my arms as wide as possible to others and embrace more opportunities to have more friends, I'm thankful for the ones already made a part of my life! While there is a lot of music about haters, I post this song for my friends:
