I know I'm perseverating over this song, but I want to share with you some background about its inspiration and meaning. First off, one of my favorite books in the bible is the Book of Ruth. It's a story about an old widow, Naomi, and her widowed daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah. These women were together after the deaths of their husbands. The land they were living in was facing a crisis, and Naomi decided to return to her native homeland. She told her daughters-in-law about her decision and gave them "permission" to return to their own homelands, too. Orpah kissed her mother-in-law and left. But Ruth clung to Naomi and remained with her. They both traveled to the land of Judah where through a series of events, Ruth became the bride of Boaz, and entered the lineage of Jesus the Christ.
What does this have to do with my Foreigner song? Well, the song is about a person who is a foreigner either through circumstances or location. The person is trying to learn to adjust and make due. The learning in this case is learning to accept love and care from someone who shows consideration. That someone is first Jesus Christ. That someone can be a Boaz.
Isaiah 56:6,7 states, "And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to serve Him, to love the name of the Lord, and to worship Him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant, these will I bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer."
God's favor is on those who for whatever reason is a foreigner. God has room for us all if we will only seek Him and accept Him.
